Our Annual Spirit of Education Award goes to Beverly Bailey—a dedicated educator and leader who served Highland Community Schools for 30 years, from 1974 to 2004! ❤️🖤
This award honors a former educator who has made a lasting impact on Highland students, staff, and the community while exemplifying the professionalism, positivity, and strong character we hope every Highland graduate carries into the world. Beverly represents all of this and more.
Throughout her remarkable career, Beverly served:
🍎 10 years in special education
📚 12 years as a first-grade teacher
🏫 8 years as an elementary principal
Her leadership helped strengthen students’ reading skills through data-informed practices, guide planning for the middle school and Ainsworth’s transition from open to enclosed classrooms, and establish schoolwide character development and weekly assemblies recognizing students of character.
Beverly’s dedication to service continues through church leadership, worship services, and participation in a municipal band.
Her message to Highland staff is a powerful reminder of the difference educators make every day:
“Remember, you may be the only person who smiles at a student each day. You are a very important role model.”

Highland Families and Staff,
Highland Community School District will conduct a districtwide test of our notification system on Wednesday, August 19th, at 12:00 p.m.
The test message will be sent through the following communication channels:
• Highland Huskies app notification
• Text message
• Phone call
• Email
• District social media
This is only a test—no action is required when you receive the message. The purpose of this test is to ensure that our families and staff can receive important district communications, including school announcements, weather-related updates, schedule changes, and emergency notifications.
Here are just a few important reminders below!

The official Highland Huskies app is available free for Apple and Android devices. The app provides convenient access to district news, events, schedules, menus, notifications, and other Husky Happenings.

Select “Allow Notifications” when prompted.

Please also check your device settings to confirm that notifications are enabled for the Highland Huskies app.
CHECK YOUR POWERSCHOOL INFORMATION
Highland uses Apptegy as our district communication platform. Apptegy connects with PowerSchool, our student information system, allowing district messages to be delivered using the parent and guardian contact information on file.
Please take a moment to:
Sign in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal at https://highland.powerschool.com.
Review the email addresses and phone numbers associated with your family.
Confirm that each parent or guardian who should receive district communications has current information on file.
Review any available communication preferences.
Keeping this information current helps ensure that district texts, phone calls, and emails reach the correct recipients. App push-notification preferences are managed separately within the Highland Huskies app and your phone’s settings.

Join us Friday, August 14th, at the Highland Secondary Campus as we celebrate the start of the fall season and recognize our student-athletes.
🏃 5:30 p.m. — Cross Country Fun Run
🏐 6:00 p.m. — Volleyball Scrimmage
🏈 7:00 p.m. — Football Scrimmage
🐾 7:30 p.m. — Fall Athlete Introductions on the track

🥤 Admission: A donation of Gatorade or Powerade
🍿 Concessions provided by the Highland Fine Arts Boosters
The Highland football program will also sell retired helmets featuring Highland decals as a fundraiser. These helmets are no longer approved for competition but make a unique keepsake for Husky fans!

We’re inviting local businesses, organizations, churches, service clubs, families, and community groups to help us welcome Highland Elementary students with smiles, music, positivity, and plenty of fist bumps! 👊🐾
The Highland Hype Crew will gather outside the entrances of Highland Elementary in Riverside. Participants should arrive by 7:30 a.m., with students arriving from 7:35–8:00 a.m.
Opportunities will generally be available twice each month—on the last instructional day of the first and final school weeks.
Participants are encouraged to wear Highland gear or their organization’s apparel and bring positive signs, pom-poms, or other school-appropriate items to help us create an exciting welcome!
