This morning was our third Highland Hype Crew welcome, and honestly… it was just really cool to see.

There’s something special about starting the day with music playing, fist bumps at the door, smiles, and people showing up just to help make kids feel good about coming to school. The energy was awesome, but even more than that, you could see students smiling, laughing, and walking in a little more excited to start their Thursday!

That’s exactly why we started the Highland Hype Crew in the first place.

A huge thank you to Cheryl Kauffman, Mary Beth Rozmus, members from Hills Bank, members from UI Health Care – River Crossing, and so many others I’m sure I’m forgetting for showing up and helping create such a positive start to the day for our students.

These mornings may seem simple, but they matter. And today was another great reminder of that.

Highland Families and Community Members,

I wanted to share an important update regarding the ongoing appeal of the November 2024 bond election.

On May 1st, the Iowa Supreme Court issued its decision on the legal challenge to our school bond referendum. The Court ruled in favor of the Highland Community School District and affirmed the results of the election. This decision confirms that the bond referendum is valid. With this outcome, we now have the opportunity to move forward together as a district and community. We recognize that this process has been significant, and we are appreciative of the time, attention, and care so many have invested along the way.

The bond represents an important investment in our students, staff, and facilities. Key projects include the construction of a multipurpose facility to expand access for activities; improvements to the elementary entrance to enhance safety and security; the addition of classroom and collaboration spaces to support a range of student services; and updates to high school commons and locker room areas to address space and functionality needs.

As we take the next steps, we will continue to communicate clearly about the process moving forward, including timelines and project updates.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of the Highland Community School District. We are excited to move forward together!

Go Huskies!

🌸✨ It’s a great day to be a Husky and celebrate our incredible staff! ✨🌸

One of our fellow team members had this to share about a colleague who goes above and beyond every day ❤️👏

Food & Nutrition Member Raye Wieland — these kind words were shared by a fellow staff member:

"Raye Wieland is a key member of the Highland Nutrition Department team. She plays an important role in managing the kitchen, planning menus, and coordinating orders to ensure our Huskies are well fed each day.

Raye is always willing to step in and help wherever needed, consistently going above and beyond to support both students and staff. Her dedication, positivity, and care for others make a lasting impact across our district.

We are grateful to have Raye as part of the Highland team. "
