A few weeks ago, we were honored to welcome Laine Buck, Communications Director for the School Administrators of Iowa, to Highland Community School District as part of our selection for a special statewide feature. Highland will be highlighted alongside just a few other districts across Iowa in a series titled The Iowa Way: Stronger Schools, Stronger Communities, which showcases the powerful impact public education has on students, families, and local communities.
At Highland, this recognition reflects the meaningful work happening across our district. From our transition to a four-day school week—to the growth of our innovative makerspace that is expanding hands-on, future-ready opportunities for students, we are proud to be moving education forward in ways that meet the needs of our community.
This feature also celebrates the strong partnerships that make our progress possible, including the continued collaboration between our school district, local leadership, and community businesses. Together, we are creating opportunities that benefit all Highland Huskies.
We are incredibly grateful for this recognition and excited to share our story. The article and accompanying video will be released in the coming months—stay tuned!

The 4x100 relay team just dropped another HALF SECOND at Drake 💨 — an incredible improvement! Starting the season ranked 84th and now climbing to 65th in the ENTIRE state… that’s how you dominate 📈💪

Today was our first day with the Highland Hype Crew—and what a way to kick off a Friday! 🎉
A big thank you to Kris Westfall from Iowa Realty (https://kriswestfall.iowarealty.com/) and Ryan Rogerson representing the City of Riverside for joining our staff and bringing the energy this morning.
The Highland Hype Crew is all about creating a positive, high-energy welcome for our students—greeting them with smiles, music, and encouragement as they start their day.
We had the Avenger fist bumps going, great music playing, and plenty of smiles to go around. We hope we were able to bring a little extra joy to our students as they started their day!
Our hope is to continue growing the Highland Hype Crew into next year with even more community partners and volunteers.
We can’t wait to do it all again next Thursday morning!
