Highland 4th Graders Learn about Biodiversity

Iowa State University representative Liz Juehems presented the program Water Rocks! to the Highland Elementary 4th grade classroom of Mary Brase. Water Rocks! is a statewide water quality and natural resources education and outreach program. Based on campus at Iowa State University, Water Rocks! offers K-12 and community programming using hands-on, interactive learning activities. In the 2017-2018 school year, Water Rocks! visited 180 schools in Iowa with in classroom presentations and assemblies. The visit at Highland was held on Monday, October 1st. This presentation is a part of the Biodiversity Bonanza curriculum. Students learn about the importance of biodiversity, niches within ecosystems, tropic levels (who's eating who!) and more. It is a part of the Next Generation Standards.
