Meals from the Heartland comes to Highland

April 11, 2022

On Friday, April 8, 2022, the Highland FFA partnered with Meals from the Heartland to make over 40,000 meals that will be sent to children in need around the world.  The entire high school and junior high student body participated in the event throughout the day.  Mrs. Trower, FFA advisor, and her leadership team trained teams of students as they worked in stations in the high school gym.  Classes were assigned specific periods to work in, and students listened to music they contributed to through a playlist.

Meals from the Heartland is located in West Des Moines, Iowa, and has provided over 170 million meals to the hungry in Iowa and around the world.  They provide the raw materials - students package these. Meals are sent to developing countries to provide meals at school.  Currently, meals are being sent to Ukraine.

Friday’s event was another way Highland students have worked in unity towards a common cause, the first being their support of math teacher Mrs. Zelelinski and Ukraine on Thursday, April 7, 2022.
